Awesome Book
This book was the best book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great book!

One of my FAVORITE DEAR AMERICA BOOKS!!Maria's father met her mother. She was an idian and the father fell in love with her because of her charm and beauty. But, it was not allowed for an idian to marry a white man. But, they got maried in an idian wedding ceromony. the mother gives birth to maria, then her brother. That's when disaster strikes. Smallpox have hit, and while papa is gone, the mother rushes with her 2 children to a spanish mission to get vaccinated. There is only enough medicine for 2 people, so the mother makes the ulitmate sacrifice of love and her two children get the medicine. She dies near the mission and that's when maria and her brother are taken in by a family. what happened to maria's father was heartbreaking. he found his house empty and was told that the family died of smallpox. Later on he never married and died a heartbroken man. So, there is a taste of it. still, READ THE BOOK!!!
ONE OF THE BEST DEAR AMERICA BOOKS I'VE EVER READ!!!!!
An excellent addition to the Dear America series!Rosa secretly knows how to write, and when she finds a blank diary cast away by the wealthy Miguela, she decides to keep a diary. She writes about the work that she does on the rancho, festivals, and her friends (and the boy she loves!), and also her wonderings of who her and her little brother's parents really were - and she is determined to find out. However, with the "norteamericanos" taking over her homeland, and thoughts of war in the air, life soon becomes much more complicated for Rosa.
This was another excellent novel in the Dear America series, and I'd highly recommend it, as it was very exciting and interesting, and also taught me a lot about the Spanish culture. I'd definitely recommend this book for ages 11 - 14!

SVSY ROCKS MY WORLD!!!
BEST BOOK YET
8th Book in the SVH: Senior Year SeriesAnd speaking of Maria, she's asked to star in the school play, "Courting Priscilla", alongside Jessica Wakefield and Tia Ramirez. However, Maria's stardom is starting to go to her head, and her two new friends may not have enough patience to put up with it, not that I blame them.
There is some added excitement in this eighth book. It looks like Jessica has a secret admirer who's been giving her expensive gifts and poetry--and it's not her boyfriend, Jeremy Aames. (Hint: The mystery man has been interested in Jessica before. But watch out for the red herring.)
Another notable mention: Angel Desmond, Tia's longtime older boyfriend, makes his "main character" debut in "Maria Who?". He's recently taken a second job as a bartender at the local hangout (the Riot) to Tia Ramirez's dismay, because not only does it keep him from her, but Angel's boss is extremely strict and won't allow him to converse with any of his friends while he's working. Besides his hectic schedule, the biggest problem I saw was Tia's unnecessary pressure on Angel. I mean, why does she expect him to pay for everything? Why doesn't she get a part-time job and help out with their dates, especially with their big anniversary coming up?
Aside from that, "Maria Who?" was pretty good, although it didn't really spotlight the "Nina issue" like the synopsis on the back cover described.
Changing the subject: If you like SVH: Senior Year books, then there's another teen romance series you might want to check out: Love Stories. I haven't read any of them yet, but I've heard they're pretty good.

almost good
FINALLY!!!
I LUV THIS BOOK!

A Phoenix-area mom says "Thanks"!Nutrition-minded parents will appreciate the list of farmer's markets in the area, and my kids and I had a wonderful time at some of the family-friendly farms and dairies the book highlighted. Not only does author Michelle Burgess provide the lowdown on kid favorites such as local parks and zoos, she also gives parents helpful suggestions for fun AND educational activities, such as the above-mentioned farms, off-the-beaten path museums and volunteer projects families can participate in together.
The book includes everything a parent needs to know about area outdoor activities, camps, cultural diversions, sporting events and more. Most of the attractions have helpful descriptions as well as contact information and a price guide. The back of the book contains emergency phone numbers and first-aid tips, including a list of scary critters and plants to avoid. Whimsical illustrations by Burgess' children round out the book.
Our family loves this book! I'd recommend it to any Phoenix-area family -- even seasoned dwellers could learn a thing or two from it.
